You spoke. We listened.

Here’s what we heard from the different communities.

At every session, Hoosiers made one message unmistakably clear: they oppose off-cycle redistricting.

Pressure on Indiana’s governor and lawmakers to reshuffle the state’s congressional districts has intensified—even as public sentiment strongly rejects the proposal. ReCenter Indiana hosted three nonpartisan listening sessions across Morgan, Marion, and Hamilton counties, offering residents the only in-person opportunity to share feedback on redistricting outside official town halls.

Hoosier Voices Were Clear

  • Martinsville

Residents strongly opposed mid-decade redistricting and urged lawmakers to focus on real community needs. Attendees highlighted concerns around healthcare, education, and the rising cost of living.

  • Beech Grove

Participants overwhelmingly rejected the redistricting proposal and emphasized everyday challenges facing families. Their top concerns included food insecurity, public education, and environmental protection.

  • Fishers

Attendees voiced clear opposition to off-cycle redistricting and called for attention to core quality-of-life issues. Residents prioritized healthcare access, strong public schools, and safeguarding Indiana’s future.

“Across every community we visited, neighbors were overwhelmingly opposed to redistricting and instead urged lawmakers to focus on the issues that matter most.”

— Don Knebel, Board President, ReCenter Indiana

What Hoosiers want action on

Residents overwhelmingly rejected calls from national political leaders to eliminate Indiana’s two Democratic U.S. House seats. Instead, attendees said their priorities include healthcare costs, food insecurity, public education, and environmental protection.

Top Community Priorities

  • Healthcare Access and Affordability

  • Cost of Living and the Economy

  • Support for Public Education

  • Environmental Protection

Across all three listening sessions, Hoosiers expressed overwhelming opposition to off-cycle redistricting and urged lawmakers to shift their focus toward real community needs. Residents consistently named healthcare access, cost-of-living pressures, public education, and environmental protection as top priorities for the 2025 legislative session.

About half of attendees across locations also emphasized the importance of reproductive health, strong schools, accessible healthcare, and stable housing. More than one-third raised concerns about food insecurity and economic strain, while others highlighted LGBTQ+ rights, immigration issues, gun safety, and childcare.

Despite differences between communities, the overall message was remarkably aligned: Hoosiers want their elected officials to address everyday challenges, protect democratic representation, and strengthen the future of Indiana.

ReCenter Indiana submitted these findings to state legislators and urged elected officials to stay grounded in the needs of their constituents.
